Best Hedge Fund Recruiters for 2026, Matched by Role

Hedge fund hiring runs through a small circle of specialist recruiters, and the wrong pick can stall a search before the first interview. A firm already retained by a fund in your peer group may be barred from approaching the people you want. A generalist may not know how to test a portfolio manager's track record or time a hire around garden leave.
The 13 hedge fund recruiters below were checked for real offices and for genuine hedge fund specialization. They are split into two groups: recruiters who fill operations, compliance, and C-suite seats, and headhunters who place portfolio managers, analysts, and quants.
For an outside view of reputation, we used the eFinancialCareers 2026 Ideal Recruiter report, built from more than 7,500 survey responses collected during 2025.
Each profile covers who the firm suits, who it doesn't, and where it is based. A role-by-role guide and a breakdown of hedge fund recruiter fees follow the profiles.
Best Hedge Fund Recruiters at a Glance
The first three firms specialize in non-investment and control-function seats; the other ten place investment talent. Headquarters are listed as each firm reports them.
How We Ranked These Hedge Fund Recruiting Firms
Every firm was scored on five weighted criteria, after two checks: a verified office (staff, address, and local job postings), and hedge funds as a core practice.
For independent recognition, the main input was the eFinancialCareers report cited above. Its respondents rated Paragon Alpha first in the hedge fund category, True Search second, and Odyssey Search Partners third.
True Search is a respected firm, but the placements its investment management practice highlights are mostly venture capital and private equity firms, so it fell short on hedge fund specialization.
Large generalist firms such as Korn Ferry, Spencer Stuart, and Heidrick & Struggles also handle hedge fund mandates. We left them out because hedge funds are one practice among dozens at each, and readers looking for broader investment management recruiters can compare them in our asset management roundup, and our finance executive search roundup profiles the generalists directly.
The list is grouped by the type of seat being filled, and firms are ranked within each group. Alpha Apex Group, which publishes this article, is included in the operations and C-suite group. We scored it on the same criteria as every other firm.
Hedge Fund Recruiters for Operations, Compliance, and C-Suite Roles
These three firms fill the seats that keep a fund running and registered: finance, operations, legal, compliance, and technology leadership. Within this group, firms are ordered by breadth of C-suite coverage.
1. Hudson Gate Partners: Non-Investment Leadership for Hedge Funds

Hudson Gate Partners works only on non-investment leadership roles across hedge funds, private equity, and investment banks. Founder Dana Feller started the firm in 2010 after more than a decade at Lehman Brothers, where she ran recruiting for asset management, hedge funds, private equity, and private wealth.
Its hedge fund practice covers finance, investor relations, operations, human capital, tax, legal and compliance, and technology, including data science and AI roles.
Partners lead searches directly. Recent placements the firm lists include a COO, CCO, and general counsel for quant hedge funds.
- Best for: A fund building out its operating platform around a launch, from CFO to head of investor relations.
- Not a fit for: Portfolio manager or analyst searches, which the firm takes on only for select clients.
- HQ: New York (21 West 46th Street)
- Ask first: Which of your listed quant-fund placements (COO, CCO, general counsel) is closest to our role?
2. Alpha Apex Group: CFO, CTO, and CISO Search with Fractional Options for Emerging Managers

Alpha Apex Group recruits analysts and executive leaders for hedge funds within a broader executive search and consulting business. Its clearest fit for funds is the C-suite outside the investment team: CFO, COO, CTO, CIO, and CISO searches, each run as a separate practice.
For emerging managers not ready for a full-time hire, it also places fractional and interim executives, so a newly launched fund can bring in a part-time CFO or CISO during its first years.
The firm has an average time-to-fill of 43 days for full-time hires across all roles, which is 60% higher than the national average. With over 2000 placements, it has a 3:1 placement ratio compared to peer firms.
- Best for: Emerging and mid-size managers hiring a CFO, CTO, or CISO, or needing fractional leadership while the fund scales.
- Not a fit for: Portfolio manager, trader, or quant researcher searches that depend on deep front-office networks.
- HQ: Denver, CO
- Ask first: Who would lead a hedge fund CFO or CISO search, and could a fractional executive cover the seat meanwhile?
3. Rutherford: Hedge Fund Compliance and Legal Recruitment in London and New York

Compliance, legal, and financial crime hires are the core of Rutherford, a London-based search firm founded in 2011 that also covers security roles in London and New York. Its hedge fund desk places chief compliance officers, general counsel, in-house lawyers, and operations leaders at long/short equity, macro, credit, and multi-strategy funds.
That narrow focus helps when a fund faces a new regulatory regime or an exam cycle and needs a control-function leader quickly. Its hedge fund consultants work across both cities, which suits managers registered with UK and US regulators.
- Best for: Funds hiring a CCO, general counsel, or financial crime lead, especially across UK and US jurisdictions.
- Not a fit for: Investment, engineering, or investor relations hires.
- HQ: London, with New York coverage.
- Ask first: Which consultant covers our jurisdiction, and would you run the search retained or contingent?
Hedge Fund Headhunters for Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Quants
These ten firms place the people who generate returns: portfolio managers, research analysts, traders, and quantitative researchers.
4. Paragon Alpha: Multi-Strategy and Quant Hedge Fund Recruitment

Paragon Alpha recruits only for hedge funds and proprietary trading firms, with a strong tilt toward multi-strategy platforms.
Its consultants are organized by strategy: quantitative (stat arb, systematic credit, high-frequency trading), discretionary macro, commodities from power to freight, equities, risk, and technology. Testimonials on its site come from portfolio managers now at Balyasny, Millennium, WorldQuant, and ExodusPoint
Respondents to the eFinancialCareers 2026 survey rated it the best hedge fund recruiter, and Hedgeweek reported that it also covers Chicago, Geneva, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Its site lists 98+ live roles and offers a quarterly newsletter, Alpha Watch Tower, on market moves and pay.
- Best for: Multi-strategy platforms hiring PMs, sub-PMs, or quant traders, including moves between London and New York.
- Not a fit for: Long-only asset managers or private equity firms.
- HQ: London, with a New York office.
- Ask first: Which strategy desk covers our seat, and which multi-strategy platforms are off-limits to you?
5. Glocap Search: Hedge Fund and Private Equity Investment Professional Search

Glocap Search has placed investment professionals since its founding in 1997 and still calls it the firm's signature practice, with dedicated teams for hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, credit, and long-only managers.
Its consultants usually come from the industries and roles they now recruit for, which helps when a fund wants someone able to judge an analyst's modeling and idea generation.
Founder Adam Zoia also leads Glocap Tech, a specialized technology search firm for investor-backed startups.
- Best for: Funds hiring analysts and senior analysts who should be screened by someone who has done the job.
- Not a fit for: Funds that want a hedge-fund-only boutique, since Glocap's teams also serve private equity, banking, and corporate development.
- HQ: New York (20 West 33rd Street).
- Ask first: Has the consultant on our search worked in the role they're recruiting for?
6. Options Group: Senior Buy-Side Search with Portfolio Manager Compensation Data

Options Group has run financial services executive search since 1992 and calls itself the largest independent financial services talent provider in the US, with 14 offices across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Managing partner Push Patel co-heads its buy-side practice.
The firm's annual compensation report covers pay from analysts to portfolio managers at funds above $5 billion in AUM, and earlier buyside editions included sample PM payout formulas, deferrals, and non-compete terms (2021/2022 report).
It also publishes quarterly hedge fund news on launches and closures.
- Best for: Funds negotiating a senior PM hire where payout and non-compete benchmarks shape the offer.
- Not a fit for: Small emerging managers hiring a first junior analyst.
- HQ: New York
- Ask first: Can we see the PM payout and non-compete data from your latest buy-side report before we make an offer?
7. Odyssey Search Partners: Retained Search for Hedge Fund and Credit Investment Teams

Most searches at Odyssey Search Partners are retained and exclusive to the firm. Founded in 2010, it is led by Adam Kahn and Anthony Keizner; Keizner previously headed Glocap's hedge fund recruiting team.
It places investment, investor relations, and capital markets professionals at hedge funds, private equity firms, credit funds, and family offices, from pre-MBA analysts to partners.
The firm reports completed searches in 21 US cities and publishes compensation reports plus an annual survey of investment banking analysts.
- Best for: Funds recruiting banking analysts into on-cycle or off-cycle buy-side roles.
- Not a fit for: Funds hiring in Europe or Asia, since its completed searches are concentrated in US cities.
- HQ: New York
- Ask first: What do exclusivity and the retainer schedule look like for our search?
8. Long Ridge Partners: Front-to-Back Hedge Fund Recruiting in New York

Long Ridge Partners has recruited for alternative asset managers since 2004 and now covers hedge funds, private equity, real estate, and public and private credit with a team of 50+.
Its hedge fund work runs front to back: recent placements on its site include a systematic equity PM, a global head of equities, a credit trading analyst, a head of portfolio finance, and an associate general counsel.
Separate technology and in-house legal desks let one firm fill a quant researcher seat and a fund counsel seat in the same buildout. The firm reports more than 5,000 placements.
- Best for: Multi-seat buildouts where a fund wants investment, technology, and legal hires from one search partner.
- Not a fit for: Funds seeking a strategy-specialist boutique for a single commodities or macro seat.
- HQ: New York
- Ask first: Can one team run our investment, technology, and legal hires together?
9. Mondrian Alpha: Hedge Fund Search Backed By an Annual Salary Survey

Research sits alongside search at Mondrian Alpha, a boutique firm for buy-side businesses that works across investment, capital formation, and business operations.
Its consultants specialize by market, including macro, credit, fixed income, quant and systematic, fundamental equities, and private credit, with offices in London, New York, and Dubai.
The firm publishes an annual hedge fund salary survey, which its consultants use to position offers. That pairing of market mapping and search suits a fund that wants competitor intelligence before committing to a hire.
- Best for: European funds, or US funds building London teams, that want pay benchmarks alongside the search.
- Not a fit for: Asia-only hiring, given its offices sit in London, New York, and Dubai.
- HQ: London
- Ask first: What does your 2026 salary survey show for this seat in London versus New York?
10. Selby Jennings: High-Volume Hedge Fund Recruitment Across Quant and Fundamental Seats

Volume is the draw at Selby Jennings, the financial services brand of Phaidon International, a recruitment group headquartered in London with offices including New York.
Its hedge fund desk advertises live roles at multi-strategy funds above $15 billion in AUM, from FX volatility PMs to industrials research analysts and operations specialists. It also posts salary ranges on listings.
Staffing Industry Analysts named Phaidon International one of the 2026 Largest Direct Hire Firms.
- Best for: Funds filling several analyst, researcher, or operations seats at once.
- Not a fit for: A confidential CIO or senior PM search where discretion outweighs reach.
- HQ: London, with a New York office.
- Ask first: How many candidates will you present in parallel, and how do you keep the search confidential?
11. Dynamics Search Partners: Analyst-to-PM Investment Search for Alternative Managers

Investment hires from pre-MBA analyst to portfolio manager are the core of Dynamics Search Partners, a New York firm focused on alternative investments that places professionals at hedge funds, private equity firms, family offices, and endowments.
Investor relations and other strategic functions get targeted searches alongside that core.
The firm runs a Campus Lecture Series that brings working investment professionals to undergraduates nationwide, giving it an early read on junior talent. Its site reports 300+ placements a year across hedge fund and private equity clients.
- Best for: Funds hiring pre-MBA analysts through portfolio managers, including candidates moving over from sell-side, consulting, or operating roles.
- Not a fit for: Systematic funds hiring quant developers.
- HQ: New York
- Ask first: How would you approach an analyst search versus a PM search for our strategy?
12. Carrington Fox: Long/Short Equity Analyst and Portfolio Manager Search

Carrington Fox's hedge fund work focuses on fundamental long/short teams. The boutique, founded in 2001, runs partner-led searches for hedge funds, investment banks, proprietary trading firms, and financial technology companies.
It also handles specialist tax mandates. Beyond search, it offers salary surveys, hiring trend reports, and market mapping, on retained or contingent terms.
- Best for: Pods hiring sector analysts or PMs in coverage areas such as biopharma or semiconductors.
- Not a fit for: Non-investment C-suite hires such as a CFO or COO.
- HQ: New York.
- Ask first: Which of your active long/short mandates overlap with our sector?
13. Durlston Partners: Quant and Trading-Technology Recruitment for Hedge Funds

Durlston Partners, a London-headquartered firm founded in 2010, specializes in technology, quantitative finance, data science, and digital assets. Its clients range from hedge funds and family offices to digital asset firms and banks.
Co-head of US technology recruitment Peter Malone leads its New York office, which opened in January 2023.
A Dubai office followed in 2024, with a buy-side division covering quant trading, technology, and discretionary trading for hedge funds. The same year, it added Vikram Tandon, a consultant with more than two decades of experience, to cover commodities, global macro, and quant/systematic investing searches
- Best for: Systematic funds hiring quant researchers, quant developers, or trading-technology engineers.
- Not a fit for: Fundamental analysts, investor relations, or C-suite operating hires.
- HQ: London, with offices in New York and Dubai.
- Ask first: Who covers quant research hires versus trading-technology hires, and from which office?
Which Hedge Fund Recruiter Fits Your Search? A Role-by-Role Guide
For PM and quant seats, start with Paragon Alpha or Options Group; for sector analysts, Carrington Fox or Glocap; for operating and control roles, Hudson Gate Partners, Alpha Apex Group, or Rutherford.
Shortlist two firms per seat. The individual consultant's network in your strategy matters more than the firm's overall brand.
What Makes Hedge Fund Recruitment Different from Other Finance Hiring?
Hedge fund searches turn on five issues that don’t come up in corporate finance or banking hires. A recruiter who can't handle them will slow the search or cost you the candidate.
- Off-limits conflicts. At the senior level, the talent pool is small, and recruiters often have agreements not to approach their own clients' staff. A firm can be excellent and still unable to call the people you want, so ask about overlap with your peer group first.
- Non-competes and notice periods. A PM may sit out months of paid leave before joining. Options Group's buy-side reports, covered in its profile above, track notice and non-compete terms by fund type because they shape start dates and sign-on guarantees.
- Track record portability. A strong PM's returns depend partly on the old platform's capital, data, and risk limits. Good recruiters test which part of the P&L the candidate can rebuild elsewhere.
- Pod buildouts. Multi-manager platforms sometimes hire a PM, two analysts, and a quant developer together, so one search becomes four tightly linked ones.
- Pay tied to alpha. Compensation consultancy Johnson Associates expects 2026 hedge fund bonus increases of roughly 2.5% to 10%, with a wider gap between top and average performers (Hedgeweek). Offers have to price that dispersion, which is why salary surveys from recruiters such as Mondrian Alpha and Options Group carry weight.
How Much Do Hedge Fund Recruiters Charge?
Hedge fund recruiters typically charge 15% to 35% of the hire's first-year compensation, paid by the fund. None of the 13 firms above publish their rates, so the ranges below come from broader search-industry benchmarks.
Contingent Hedge Fund Recruiting Fees
Contingent recruiters are paid only when you hire their candidate, typically 15% to 25% of first-year pay. Usually, there is no exclusivity, so several firms can work the same role at once. This model suits analyst and operations seats where speed and candidate volume matter most.
Retained Hedge Fund Executive Search Fees
Retained firms are paid in installments over the search, whether or not you hire, and the assignment is exclusive. Totals generally run 25% to 35% of first-year compensation.
For instance, Korn Ferry's fiscal 2026 annual report sets its fee at one-third of the placed candidate's estimated first-year cash compensation.
Odyssey Search Partners works on a retained basis; Carrington Fox offers both models.
Why Guarantees and Sign-On Bonuses Raise the Fee Base
The percentage is applied to first-year cash compensation, which in hedge funds often includes a guaranteed bonus or a sign-on payment to buy out deferred pay.
A PM with a $400,000 base and a $600,000 guaranteed first-year bonus carries $1 million in first-year cash, so a one-third fee comes to about $333,000.
Korn Ferry also bills a top-up when final pay exceeds the estimate used at the start of the search.
Agree on what counts as compensation before the search begins.
How to Choose the Right Hedge Fund Recruiter
No single firm covers every hedge fund hire well.
Paragon Alpha, Options Group, and Mondrian Alpha stand out for PM and quant searches, Odyssey and Glocap for investment talent coming off the sell side, and Carrington Fox for sector analysts.
Hudson Gate Partners and Rutherford cover the operating and control functions that keep a fund registered and running.
Before you sign, check three things with any shortlisted firm:
- Which of your peers can't the firm approach?
- Which consultant will actually run the search?
- What compensation is the fee calculated on?
If your next hire sits outside the investment team, like a CFO, CTO, or CISO, or you need part-time leadership while a new fund scales, schedule a meeting with Alpha Apex Group about a full-time or fractional search for your hedge fund.
FAQs
Who are the biggest hedge fund recruiting firms?
The largest executive search firms overall, such as Korn Ferry, Spencer Stuart, Heidrick & Struggles, and Russell Reynolds, all take hedge fund mandates. Among hedge fund specialists, Options Group has the widest office network on this list, Long Ridge Partners the largest reported placement count, and Paragon Alpha the top rating in the eFinancialCareers survey.
Do hedge fund recruiters charge candidates a fee?
No. The hiring fund pays the recruiter, usually a percentage of the new hire's first-year compensation. Candidates should be wary of any recruiter that asks them for payment.
How long does a hedge fund search take?
A hedge fund search can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the seat and its urgency. Senior investment hires typically take longer to start because non-compete and notice periods can delay the joining date well after the offer is signed.
What is the difference between a hedge fund recruiter and a hedge fund headhunter?
The terms are mostly interchangeable. "Headhunter" usually implies a firm that approaches passive candidates who aren't job hunting, which is how most senior hedge fund roles get filled. "Recruiter" can also cover firms that advertise roles and screen applicants, as high-volume desks do.
